INSPIRATION
Fun Home by Alison Bechdel
I took inspiration from this page in Bechdel's alteration of time. She shows herself in the first frame as a child and in the second frame as a teenager to show the amount of time involved with her theme of "inversions" from one frame to the next. I used this technique in my comic to compress time as my narrative spans many years of my life in 16 short frames.

Vietnamerica by GB Tran
GB Tran's art style feature both simple lines and more complex shading work as well as brush strokes for coloring. In my final draft, I would like to pay homage to his style as it more accurately reflects my own than Bechdel's much cleaner art style. Also, Tran uses onomatopoeia to convey noises within the frame. In my comic I plan to use this technique sparingly only for one or two frames where it becomes central to the story being told. Underwater you tend to hear yourself more than your surroundings.
